NLMA was founded during the Iraq-Iran war that flared up by the Iranian party in 4/9/1980 and Iraq has officially involved in it in 22/9/1980 . Iraqi Government succeeded in gathering all Ahwazi organizations under one organization during that time.
The organization was called "Arabic Front of Liberation of Ahwaz" that established in 22/9/1981, which was formed from the following organizations Ahwaz names :
During the Iraq-Iran war, some of the differences between the Iraqi government and the Ahwazi leaders in the Arabic Front of Liberation of Ahwaz occurred in 1982. These differences led to the leaders to exit front. Later on, these leaders formed their own organizations trying to address through damage caused to the Ahwazi case. In 1983, the leaders gathered in the State of Kuwait and formed the National Assembly of Ahwaz to be a national umbrella that performing Ahwazi policies and away from the tutelage and, containment and attachment .
Among the leaders who left the Arabic Front of Liberation of Ahwaz were Khaz'al Al-Hashemi and SeyedTaher Al-Seyed Al-Seyed Na'ma .
The main reasons for the major differences between the Iraqi government and Ahwazi leaders were are :
For the above reasons and others, NLMA was established and led by Mr. Khaz'al Al-Hashemi. The movement contributed to the establishment of the National Assembly of Ahwaz to build the institutions of the Ahwazi revolution .

NLMA has been practicing its moderate and committed to liberate Ahwaz and struggle to take Ahwazi case away from dimensions and containment policies, to keep the Ahwazi political decision independent and free and Ahwazi. NLMA rejects any external interference in the affairs of Ahwazi case or NLMA movement. NLMA has been attempting to build relationships with states on the basis of mutual interests in accordance with international laws and conventions .
Aspirations of NLMA :

NLMA has been trying after independence to establish a state of Ahwaz that is fully independent; and be the rule of law and institutions; a state that respects human rights and equality and to ensure that religious observance in the exercise of religious activities; and working for the prosperity of the people of Ahwaz by establishing the rules of justice and democracy. In additon, Ahwaz is to be a cooperating state with the international community in establishing international peace and security. Regionally, it will contribute in stability of the region, growth, and openness. Ahwaz also to be a civilized state and open country to the world politically, economically, educationally, culturally and humanly Subject to the customs, traditions, religion, and identity of the Ahwazi people.
